Current Goals
BUILDING ON A DREAM
Built in 1983 to accommodate 40,000 annual ambulatory visits, Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children's Medical Center of NY (CCMC) now accommodates four times that amount. CCMC is in dire need of new space to meet the region’s ever-growing demand for pediatric services.
There’s also the need for a dedicated pediatric emergency center. Today CCMC shares an emergency room with Long Island Jewish Medical Center. That means seriously ill children are unnecessarily exposed to the stresses and dangers common to an adult emergency room.
On May 1, 2007, in partnership with North Shore-LIJ Health System Foundation, CMF hosted “Building On A Dream,” a gala dinner to kick off CCMC’s planned expansion. In that one night alone, CMF raised over $40 million, enough to guarantee CCMC will break ground in the next twelve months. But our work is far from over. To complete the project, we’ll need to raise another $70 million dollars in the next five years.
